The week's dominant sports prediction market story was one of the most shocking results in major championship history.

Kalshi's 2026 PGA Championship markets topped $365.2 million in total volume across all categories, with the Outright Winner market alone accounting for nearly $333.5 million making it one of the three largest golf prediction market events ever processed. Aaron Rai won the tournament despite drawing just $8.4 million in outright backing far behind Scottie Scheffler's $20.1 million and Rory McIlroy's $13.7 million. Scheffler generated nearly three times the eventual winner's volume, yet finished tied for 14th at 2-under.

Aaron Rai became the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship since 1919, lifting the Wanamaker Trophy at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania with a 9-under 271 total

The OKC Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs Western Conference Finals tipped off Monday May 18, with OKC opening as -260 series favourites and 6.5-point Game 1 favourites. The Thunder defending champions, 64-18 in the regular season had gone 8-0 in the postseason, sweeping the Suns in Round 1 and the Lakers in Round 2, all without second-leading scorer Jalen Williams.

On prediction markets, OKC sat at -165 (approximately 62%) to win the NBA Finals, while the Spurs were at +320 a remarkable rise for a team that began the season as a long shot. The Spurs had hammered Minnesota 139-109 as 5.5-point road favourites in a series-clinching Game 6, confirming their credentials as a genuine championship threat.

Polymarket's Thunder NBA Finals championship market had drawn $16.9 million in total volume the highest of any single-team championship market in this postseason cycle while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remained the -155 Finals MVP favourite.
